Welcome to Athens Queer Collective!

We're a small but mighty collective of local Athenians who are coming together to work toward building a stronger, more cohesive, and inclusive Athens queer community through education, outreach, community support, and advocacy. Until now, there hasn't been a local Athens organization that addresses intersectionality in the queer community or provides ongoing resources and support.  We're working to change that and, though we've got a long way to go, we're off to a running start.

We offer opportunities for community-building and fellowship via support groups for transgender adults, LGBTQIA+ youth, and queer & trans people of color. Currently, we also offer education and hands-on sensitivity & bias training for local businesses, non-profits, agencies, and public servants who wish to better serve their LGBTQIA+ patrons.

here’s how we’re currently working to fulfill our mission:

  • Education

    • LGBTQIA+ sensitivity & bias training for local businesses, non-profits, and agencies. To learn more about bringing education to your organization, contact us.

  • Community Support

    • Trans Support Group - A monthly support group for trans, gender-variant, or nonconforming folks who are looking for safe space and community in Athens. The Trans Support Group meets on the 2nd Saturday of every month at 12 noon. For more information, including location, click here.

    • QTPOC Group - A social group intended for queer people of color to create a space to interact, engage with others, and find resources related to queer life within the Athens community.

    • LGBTQ+ Youth Group - A social & educational group for middle-school and high-school aged youth in the greater Athens are who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or questioning. Our monthly social groups provide a fun, safe environment where teens have the opportunity to relax and meet new people while embracing their individuality and allowing their true selves to shine.

  • Outreach

    • We work with local businesses and other non-profit organizations to provide education and get queer/LGBTQIA+ stories into the hands of the wider community.

    • We aim to connect inquiries from our queer community with appropriate resources that may be able to meet their needs.

We have big ideas to share with you and we’re actively working to expand the ways in which we fulfill our mission in outreach and advocacy. Here are a few ways you can get involved in the meantime and lend your own voice to our collective:
